The Historic Florence Project
UNA Photographic Exhibition

In conjunction with KD's 50th Anniversary celebrations, the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts is pleased to present "The Historic Florence Project" beginning November 8, 2026 and continuing through January 7, 2027. This exhibition is a historic photographic exhibition by UNA Professor Robert Rausch's photography students. A reception will be held on Thursday, November 12th, from 5-7 pm. All are invited to join us for this community event!

The Historic Florence Project is a photographic project from the University of North Alabama art/photography students. Architecture profoundly impacts daily life by shaping human behavior, emotions, and productivity through the design of our environments. Thoughtful, accessible, and aesthetically pleasing spaces enhance well-being and social interaction. Architecture, from the layout of a single room to the planning of an entire city, dictates how we move, work, and feel, creating either a supportive or draining environment for daily life.

It influences mood, comfort, and safety in homes, workplaces, and public spaces. Along with the river, the music, and the arts, architecture has a historic impact on the lives we live today. These photos explore the beauty of the details, spaces, and layout of historic architecture in the Shoals.

The Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts is free and open to the public Monday -Friday from 9-4 and on Sundays from 1-4. The art center is located at 217 E. Tuscaloosa St. Florence, AL and can be reached by calling 256-760-6379.
